Yes. I’m going to write a million words.
But a million words is a pretty abstract concept. How else might it be expressed?
A million words is :
133 Short Stories
80 Novelettes
27 Novellas
25 Novels
Formal English speaking is usually paced between 100 to 120 words per minute. Therefore, speaking a million words in nonstop conversation would take around
9091 minutes, otherwise known as
151 hours, or
6.3 days.
Of course, nobody can talk for that long without stopping.
Just how many is a million?
If you were to take a million 4″ x 7″ index cards and put one word on each, laying them with their long sides together, they would stretch for 111,111 yards, or 63 miles.
If the cards were a quarter-inch thick, then a stack of them would be almost 4 miles high.
The stack would weigh around 1800 kilograms, or almost 4000 pounds. Practically two tons!
Those words would make a very heavy statement.
One million words in one year translates into around :
83333 words per month
19231 words per week
2740 words per day
171 words per waking hour (assuming 16 waking hours)
2.85 words per minute, or
1 word per 21 seconds.
And that’s without including time for meals, breaks, and the bathroom!
